The Challenge: a local commercial bakery’s boiler had seen better days, due to ineffective boiler service. There boiler was less efficient than optimum due to severe water side scaling, which reduces heat transfer into the water (heat instead is wasted out of the stack), and unreliable due to fouling of the burner’s internal. The baker was spending money monthly keeping the boiler online.

The Solution: Better Service. When first contacted, our customer service representative visited the job site to conduct a survey and assess the situation. After discussions with the owner, it was agreed that we would prepare a monthly service agreement so that we would have regular contact with the equipment and improve their up-time.
During the first internal inspection, the boiler was thoroughly flushed and water and firesides were cleaned, improving the boiler’s efficiency. We also performed repairs on the burner to improve its reliability. During our evaluation, it was determined that most of their burner-related issues were due to the burner ingesting fine flour dust. Our technicians recommended the installation of an outside air intake to better protect the burner.
After the installation of the outside air intake, their downtime dropped dramatically. We continued the monthly service visits as agreed upon. However, over the next few months, given the improved reliability, the customer and W.C. Rouse are both confident that they can safely now go to a less costly, quarterly tune-up schedule – saving the customer money!
