There are currently 20 names in this directory beginning with the letter T.
The process of attaching a danger tag to the source of power to indicate that the equipment may not be operated until the tag is removed.
tensile stress
Stress that occurs when two forces of equal intensity act on an object, which pulls the object in opposite directions.
A unit used to measure the heat content of natural gas and is equal to 100,000 Btu.
thermal efficiency
The ratio of the heat absorbed by the boiler (output) to the heat available in the fuel (input) including radiation and convection losses.
thermal expansion feedwater regulator
A feedwater regulator with a thermostat that expands and contracts with exposure to steam and moves a linkage that modulates a regulator valve.
A thermometer consisting of two dissimilar metals that are joined together to form a circuit that generates a voltage proportional to the difference in temperature between the hot and cold ends of the wires.
thermodynamic steam trap
A steam trap that has a single movable disc that rises to allow the discharge of air and cool condensate.
thermohydraulic feedwater regulator
A feedwater regulator with a regulating valve, a bellows, a generator, and stop valves that varies feedwater flow in direct response to changes in the boiler water level by using changes in temperature to create changes in hydraulic pressure.
The general term for an instrument used to measure temperature.
thermostatic steam trap
A steam trap that contains a temperature-operated element, such as a corrugated bellows. Also known as a balanced-pressure thermostatic steam trap.
three-element feedwater regulator
A feedwater regulator that regulates the amount of feed water by measuring the steam flow from the boiler and the feedwater flow into the boiler in addition to the water level.
titration test
A water treatment test in which a reagent is added to a sample to determine the concentration of a specific dissolved substance.
total dissolved solids
A measurement of the concentration of dissolved impurities in boiler water.
A device that receives a signal representing a variable, such as temperature, pressure, or flow, and converts that signal into an electrical or digital signal that is compatible with a digital control system.
transfer switch
An electrical device that transfers the load of a building from public utility circuits to the output of a standby power source. Also known as a bypass switch.
A device that conditions a low-energy signal from a sensor and produces a suitable signal for transmission to other components or devices.
traveling grate coal stoker
See chain grate stoker.
try cocks
Valves located on the water column of a boiler that are used to determine the boiler water level if the gauge glass is not functioning.
turbine feedwater pump
A rotary positive-displacement pump that uses a flat impeller with small flat perpendicular fins machined into the impeller rim to discharge feedwater into the boiler.
two-element feedwater regulator
A feedwater regulator that regulates the amount of feed water by measuring the steam flow from the boiler in addition to the water level.
